Today is the day. A cold front will arrive this afternoon bringing some thunderstorm activity with cooler air following Thursday afternoon. Thursday highs will top out in the mid-70s. A second surge of cooler air will brush the state Thursday night into Friday with Friday afternoon highs in the lower 60s with some showers nearby or south of the area. The weekend looks absolutely beautiful with sunny, cool, and dry conditions across the state.

Yesterday we hit the mid and upper 90s. Today we'll still hit the lower 90s around the 2pm hour before the front moves across northeastern OK with a wind shift and a few storms. Early this morning some scattered showers and storms will remain possible along the OK-Kansas state line area. A few of the hi-res model rounds indicate some showers or storms may develop this morning, but the chance will remain low.The storm chances will be highest along and southeast of the I-44 corridor this afternoon and more so tonight across southeastern OK. We're not expecting severe weather with this system but one or two storms may briefly support some strong winds and small hail across far southeastern or eastern OK late this afternoon or early evening. The probability for the storms near Tulsa is not exactly stellar, but at least there is a chance!
The front will settle across the north TX area Thursday but could ooze northward Thursday evening as another short wave drops out of the Rockies and brushes the western portion of the state. This should produce some scattered showers or drizzle in a few spots across northern OK with some additional thunderstorms along the Red River Valley of north TX. I anticipate the higher coverage across areas south of the Tulsa metro, but we may deal with the light precip for the first half of Friday.
Friday afternoon drier air will move across the state from the northwest to the southeast ending the precip and clearing the sky around Friday Night Football time. Saturday morning readings will more than likely drop into the upper 40s across some of the valleys of northeastern and eastern OK while the Tulsa metro remains in the lower 50s. The Saturday afternoon highs may top the 70 degree mark, but only by a few degrees. Sunday morning will start in the lower to mid-50s with highs near 80. The pattern would support another system brushing northern OK sometime early next week.
Bottom line: After the front moves across the area today, we're in store for several days of real deal fall-like weather. Enjoy!
