A Chelsea man is in critical condition after troopers say he hit some construction barrels in a work zone early Sunday. Craig A. Flood, 22, was admitted to a Tulsa hospital with head and other injuries.
A 17-year-old female passenger in the jeep Flood was driving was also injured. The Big Cabin resident, whose name was not released, is in good condition, according to a collision report.
Troopers say the single-vehicle wreck took place at 4 a.m. on Highway 66 about 4 miles west of Vinita in Craig County. Flood was driving a 2003 Jeep Wrangler westbound on the highway when he entered a construction zone, hit a couple of barrels and ran off the road into a ditch.
The jeep rolled, and Flood, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown about 25 feet. Another passenger, 21-year-old Claremore resident Jason Deboer, was also ejected, but troopers say he wasn't hurt.
The collision report states that Flood smelled of alcohol and was driving at an unsafe speed.
