The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting in Okmulgee County.
OSBI spokesperson Jessica Brown said an officer with the Creek Nation Lighthorse Police and a Henryetta Police officer responded to numerous reports of a red Dodge pickup truck headed west in the eastbound lanes of I-40 at about 7 a.m. Monday. She says the officers spotted the pickup and a chase ensued.
"A Creek Nation Lighthorse officer did fire at least one time at the driver. At that point in time, the driver crashed his vehicle into a ditch,” said OSBI spokesperson, Jessica Brown.
She said officers found the pickup truck's driver, a man, shot and a woman passenger injured. Both were taken to a nearby hospital where the man was pronounced dead; an autopsy is being performed. Brown says the woman was treated and released.
"Once it comes back, that autopsy might help explain what was taking place this morning,” said Brown.
Video taken by the owner of thehenryettan.com, Bruce Jones, shows the truck surrounded by police officers.
"I do know that one of our Henryetta police cars has got some front end damage to it. One of the Creek Nation Lighthorse vehicles was damaged as well, but I couldn't really see all the damage from up here at my vantage point," Jones said.
Brown said both the driver and passenger are believed to be from Texas, but no names, including the officer's, have been released.
