A Tulsa oil and gas company is making it possible for area non-profit agencies to convert their vehicles to run on compressed natural gas.
Apache Corporation gave out 11 grants Wednesday. Thanks to the grants, the agencies will save money on fuel and will cut their vehicles' emissions.
Some of the groups benefiting from the grants include Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, the cities of Tulsa and Broken Arrow and the Tulsa River Parks Authority.
The Tulsa Dream Center is another organization receiving a grant. It converted a 12-passenger van that will be used to take families to activities such as medical appointments and after-school care.
There are six stations around Tulsa where they can gas up and save a lot of money.
"Its making a difference because you can see it's $1.31 for compressed natural gas versus $3.15 for a regular gallon of gas and so you can see the difference it's going to make," said Pastor Wendell Hope, Tulsa Dream Center.
Each of the conversions cost about $5,000.
