An 81-year-old Chouteau man was killed in a Saturday afternoon crash in Mayes County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Jimmie Joe Boyd Sr., died after his truck was hit broadside by a car just after 5 p.m. on U.S. Highway 412 a mile east of Chouteau, a collision report says.
Boyd was stopped at a stop sign on County Road 432 at U.S. 412 when he failed to yield to a Chevrolet Cruze driven by 89-year-old Frank Young of Bella Vista, Ark., who was traveling in the outside lane on the highway.
Boyd's 1997 Nissan pickup was hit in the driver's side and overturned 1 ¼ times, coming to rest in the median and facing the opposite direction, according to the investigating trooper.
Young was admitted to a Tulsa hospital and is said to be stable. His passenger, Florene Young, 88, also was transported to Tulsa and is stable, the report says.
