A woman currently serving as city manager for the city of Altus has accepted the same job at the city of Sand Springs.
Elizabeth Gray will begin her new position September 1, 2014. She has more than 20 years of experience in municipal government, according to a news release.
A Shawnee native, Gray had 18 years in government service in that city then served a short time as an assistant borough manager in an Alaskan town before working in Altus.
"I am absolutely delighted and honored to be selected as the next city manager of Sand Springs," Gray said. "Sand Springs is a great community that appears to possess excellent economic development opportunities. I am looking forward to serving the citizens of Sand Springs."
The announcement came at the end of a nationwide search with over 40 applicants and seven finalists.
Public Works Director Derek Campbell has been serving as interim city manager.
