Tulsa Police: Woman Lies About Car Theft To Cover For Husband

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers arrested two men and a woman after a brief chase in Tulsa early Wednesday.

Troopers said it began when they tried to stop a car with a broken tail light at Admiral and Memorial at about 3:15 a.m. The driver sped away. The pursuit ended about a mile away when the car hit a curb at 4th and Sheridan.

The driver, later identified as Rusty McGee, 33, got out of the car and ran, according to troopers.

About 20 minute after the crash, Rusty McGee's wife, Amy, called to report the car had been stolen from their home in the 1500 block of East Haskell Place. She told officers her husband had confronted the car thieves and was now lost in the neighborhood.

Police said Amy McGee, 22, eventually admitted she had lied to officers. They located Rusty McGee near Independence and Fulton at about 4 a.m.

Police booked Amy McGee into the Tulsa County jail on a complaint of filing a false police report.

Rusty McGee admitted to calling his wife and asking her to tell police the car was stolen, according to police.

They booked him into jail on complaints of eluding, having no driver's license, failure to stop, resisting arrest and having a defective light on his car.

Police booked a passenger in his car, 27-year-old Jarrell Roberts of Broken Arrow, into jail on complaints of resisting arrest and drug possession.

The OHP questioned another passenger who was pregnant but released her.

Jail records show both McGees and Roberts have court appearances set for July 9, 2014.
