Firefighters don't just battle smoke and flames. Sometimes, they have to brave fast-moving water to save lives, and Tuesday, Tulsa Fire Department candidates did just that, training on swift water rescues.

The training on the Illinois River is aimed at keeping both the victim and the rescuer safe.

"This is operations level. We have awareness, operations and technician level training, and this is operations level training," said Captain R.B. Ellis with the Tulsa Fire Department. "The rescue task force, Engine Four, Ladder Four and Engine Five, are actually trained to the swift-water technician level."

The cadets completed the water training Tuesday, and Friday they'll have another completion under their belts, their graduation. It's this Friday.
