Police say an off-duty Tulsa officer arrested a man trying to rob Home Depot with an ax he took off the store's shelves.

Sergeant Marcus Harper was working security for the big box store at 901 South Elgin when a homeless man went behind the service counter wielding an ax, according to an arrest report.

The suspect, Trevan Jamaine Brewer, went into the store just after 5 p.m. Saturday and asked an employee where the axes were located.

"Brewer went to aisle where the axes were, took one from the shelf and walked up to service desk," an arrest report states.

Police say Brewer used the ax as a weapon and demanded money. That's when Harper took him into custody.

Brewer is being held on a $50,000 bond for attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
