Sometimes a simple 'thank you' or a pat on the back isn't enough; a tangible 'something' may be needed to get the job done.

A few years ago an Owasso business created Character Coins as a way to recognizing and encouraging good character. It was successful then and they believe it's time to restart the program.

For years Owasso has been cultivating its image as a good community and a great place to live. They've put up white rail fence along the highway through town.

There are statues of Timmy and Cindy all over town, and they are promoting good character.

"Owasso Schools has a character program, the city of Owasso has a character program," Ken Grant said.

At various places around town there are banners highlighting good character traits, like discretion. Even has the definition if you need it.

Five years ago, Grant and his wife Melanie, business owners in Owasso, created a program centered on Character Coins.

"Find somebody doing something good, find somebody doing something positive and recognize them with the coin," Melanie said.

They started with 30,000 in the beginning, and they are still circulating.

"Everyday somebody does something that impacts your life; this is just a way to focus on that," Ken said.

They are re-launching the program with 5,000 newly minted Character Coins. You can learn more about the program here.
