One man was shot and killed in north Tulsa Monday afternoon after police say a property dispute lead to the shooting.

Jonta Perry, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene near North Garrison Avenue and East Young Place.

Police say a fight occurred between someone inside a home and Perry in the 600 block of East Young Place. Police say someone in the home then shot Perry while he was inside his vehicle.

They say Perry then drove down the street and eventually crashed into several houses and a pickup truck.

Police say the person inside the home and Perry knew each other and had a fight over property that led to the shooting.

Police say their investigation showed Perry used to live at the home and the current occupant had been slowly moving his items into the house.

Perry had items inside the home that he wanted to get, according to police, but the landlord would not allow it for an unknown reason.

They say Perry showed up at the home and confronted the resident, a relative of the landlord. Police say Perry went to the front porch and began assaulting the resident. Witnesses say Perry was choking and beating the person.

Police say Perry was returning to his car and made threats, the resident then shot multiple times, fearing that Perry was going for a gun.

Officials say that when the Medical Examiner arrived a pistol was found in Perry's pocket.

The 30-year-old resident was questioned and released. Police will not release a name unless charges are filed by the Tulsa County District Attorney's office.
