Two people are dead in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 183 in Dewey County. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say the fatality wreck took place at 7:11 a.m. Wednesday about a mile south of Taloga.

Troopers say sleepiness played a role in the wreck.

Brenda Fletcher, a 62-year-old Kansas woman, was southbound on the highway when she crossed left of center. Her Mazda Tribute struck a pickup truck that was northbound, according to a collision report.

Clinton resident Plez Malone Jr. was driving the pickup. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, the report states.

Malone, 68, was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected, troopers say.

The collision report lists Fletcher's apparent sleepiness as the cause of the wreck.
