A man was shot Monday night while working at a convenience store just west of 21st and Garnett. Police say there's no surveillance video, no witnesses and nothing taken from the store - so they are waiting for the victim to tell them what happened.

The victim who was shot here, was 60-year-old Miraj Khan. His family tells me he had a heart attack a couple of years ago and bypass surgery, so they don't think he would fight or argue with anyone over property.

They can't understand why this happened.

"My problem is we left our country to come here to make a living. These things happen; it's very hard," said Jamshed Khan, the victim's brother.

Jamshed Khan came to America from Pakistan in 1978, and several of his brothers have followed - including Miraj, in 2009. Jamshed says Miraj was working hard to bring his wife, son and daughter-in-law here. They're supposed to arrive next month, but now Miraj is fighting for his life.

"If he was laying there 30 more minutes, he may have been dead because he would've bled to death," his brother said.

Miraj was working at a Minute Mart when a customer came in Monday around 9 p.m. and found the clerk on the floor, unconscious. Blood was pouring out of him from a gunshot wound.

The customer called 911. The family would like to meet and thank that person.

"We're thankful to whoever it was who came to the store," Jamshed Khan said.

The bullet went into Miraj's left shoulder, across his chest and lodged in his rib cage on the right. He had surgery and is stabilized for now. His family would like to see the shooter caught.

"I hope they will find the person or people and justice will be served," said the victim's brother, Jamshed Khan. "That's one thing I appreciate, justice is there for everybody."

Miraj will be kept sedated for several days, so his family, like police, must wait for him to wake up and tell them what happened and why. Until then, they'll trust God has a plan.

"It's upsetting, but, we have to deal with it and go on, because we cannot give up or give in," Jamshed said.

Because of a lack of surveillance video and a lack of witnesses, police say they need the community's help, so if you know anything about this shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
