The Cherokee Nation is planning an expansion of the Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center just east of Stilwell. The expansion will add 28,000 square feet to the existing structure.
It's the fourth of five health care infrastructure the Nation has planned with $100 million in casino profits, tribal officials say.
The health center opened in 1995 and in 2012 recorded 134,000 patient visits. It offers primary care, pediatrics, physical therapy, radiology, pharmacy, laboratory and other services.
A release from the Cherokee Nation states that new health centers are underway in Jay and Ochelata. Another expansion is planned in Sallisaw as is a new hospital in Tahlequah.
