The Jenks Optimist Club held a fund-raising dodgeball tournament Saturday to help support their programs with area kids. The event was sponsored by the Jenks Police Department.
Elementary and middle school kids started at 10 a.m., then the action moved to high school and adult games by noon.
Jenks Police and civic leaders joined in the fun by fielding dodgeball teams Saturday at the South County Recreation Center, 138th Street South and Peoria. Chief of Police Cameron Arthur played on the Jenks Mayor Lonnie Sims' team, giving his officers a chance to pelt him in one contest.
"They really seemed to enjoy it," Arthur said.
Other teams included the U.S. Marshall Service and the Jenks Mayor's team. About 20 teams in all participated.
"There was a huge turnout that raised great money for a super charity," Chief Arthur said. "We really appreciated the support."
A high school team took top honors in the contest.
The Jenks Optimist Club sponsors programs to help area youth get involved in community activities and projects as well as sponsoring scholarship contests.
