The crumbling state capitol building is a step closer to some repairs.

A $160 million bond issue won overwhelming bipartisan approval on Wednesday from the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The bill now heads to the full Senate, which has been supportive of overhauling the nearly 100-year-old building.

Former House speaker T.W. Shannon criticized the bond, but the newly elected speaker Jeff Hickman says he's open to the idea.
