The Tulsa Police Department says a boy walking in the middle of Mohawk Boulevard was hit by a car Wednesday morning.
Police say it happened in the 2800 block of Mohawk Boulevard, just west of Highway 75 at about 6:55 a.m.
Police said three siblings were walking to school along Mohawk. They say two were walking on the side of the road while the third, a nine-year-old boy, was walking in the middle of the street.
Officers said a westbound car struck the boy. Police said EMSA took the boy to the hospital in critical condition.
They identified him as Ethan Lewis.
Police say the car was driven by a woman who had her own nine-year-old son as a passenger.
Police say there's no indication the woman was doing anything improper. It was dark at the time and she told officers she just didn't see Lewis until it was too late.
A spokesman for Tulsa Public Schools says Lewis is a student at Penn Elementary which is on 48th Street North just west of Lewis.
There was confusion about the age of the victim. Police at the scene said he was nine, but Tulsa Public Schools said he was eleven. Later in the morning TPS revised that and said he was nine after all.
