As many as 500 American Airlines flights in and out of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport through Friday morning have been canceled as the airline anticipates a major ice storm to hit the northern Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

CBS Dallas is reporting the airline made the announcement Thursday morning.

American says on its web site, due to weather, the airline is offering ticketed passengers the convenience to change their plans for flights to, through, or from:

  • Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas (DFW)
  • Northwest Arkansas Regional, AR (XNA)
  • Oklahoma City, OK (OKC)
  • Tulsa, OK (TUL)

For fliers ticketed Dec 5 through Dec. 7, American will waive ticket reissue charges for travel through Dec. 10.

Tulsa International Airport spokesperson Alexis Higgins told News On 6 they have not seen any American Airline cancellations yet.

"At this point, airlines plan to continue to operate but may have delays during periods of sleet.  Once it transitions to snow, there should be no issue regarding operations here in Tulsa. That being said, if DFW has ice, then AA's flights will definitely be impacted," said Higgins.
