Tulsa police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy Monday. Police say the boy's mother was driving to the hospital before she stopped and flagged down an officer.
The boy died at St. Francis hospital Monday morning, and police will only say the child had signs of trauma on his body. That started an investigation into a possible homicide.
We're trying to get more information, but what we've learned from police and EMSA is that Monday morning at 8:20, a 911 call came in about a child in distress, on the way to the hospital in a private car.
The call disconnected, and while 911 was trying to reconnect, the woman, believed to be the boy's mother, stopped and flagged down an ambulance and police car that were headed to St Francis Hospital. This was near the intersection of 61st and Harvard. But police say the little boy was already in what EMSA described as critical condition.
EMSA took the child to St, Francis Hospital, where he died shortly afterward.
This is an active investigation by the police department.
They're interviewing family members to find out what happened to the child.
