Claremore Hosts Wild Horse Adoption Event

Wild horses and burros are finding new homes in Green Country. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management catches the animals across the West when herds get too big to sustain.

The Bureau brought many of them to Claremore this weekend to be adopted. We spoke to one man who says he was just looking, until he saw one that reminded him of an old friend.

He's already picked out a name.

"I had a buckskin that my uncle - I rode all the time and we just called him Buck," said Earl Hopkins. "And, I think that's what this one is going to be. He looks just like him. So it'll just be Buck."

They want to make sure the horses go to good homes. So after paying a fee, each adopter must prove they have plenty of land, shelter, and food.
