Tulsa Police: Man Arrested After Running Inside Random Home To Elude Capture

A 19-year-old Tulsa man was arrested after avoiding a traffic stop and entering into a random home to elude capture, an arrest report says.

According to the report, about 8 a.m. on Friday, the officer initiated the stop on a Chevrolet Caprice after running the license plate and discovering it was registered to a Cadillac.

James Charles McKnight III accelerated to a high speed, failed to use blinkers and did not stop at stop signs, the report says.

He led the officer from the 5100 block of South 33rd West Avenue to the 4300 block of West 56th Place. There, McKnight jumped from the car and ran. He ignored commands to halt and lie on the ground, the police officer wrote.

Two passengers were apprehended, but McKnight went inside a residence. The officer used his police PA to order the home's occupants outdoors.

The woman who lives in the home reportedly told police she doesn't know McKnight and that he entered her home without consent and was not welcome there.

McKnight was arrested on a first-degree burglary complaint for entering the home to attempt at bypassing capture. He also had two outstanding warrants and was driving with a suspended license.

The officer attempted to contact the person to whom the license plate was registered, but was unable to immediately reach them to find out if the vehicle had been stolen.
