A summertime tradition is about to kick off this evening.
It's time for the 47th annual Porter Peach Festival, but most of the peaches aren't ripe just yet.
The growers at Livesay Orchards say they should have plenty of ripe peaches for the festival, but not as much as they'd like to have. But they say the ones that are ripe are nice and sweet, due to the cooler weather and rain we got in the spring and the beginning of the summer.
The festival runs Thursday through Saturday and it features activities like a peach cobbler contest, a 5k run, and mud races.
Of course, there are also arts and crafts throughout the festival's run; Thursday until 11 p.m., Friday from noon to 11 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
