The District 3 commissioner has been on the job since he was first elected in 2006. Perry was re-elected in 2010.

Perry says one of his main projects was the effort to improve tennis and other facilities at LaFortune Park.

He also served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

A special election will be held next month to fill Perry's unexpired seat. Tulsa Republican Ron Peters is facing Democrat John Bomar, also of Tulsa on August 13.

The county commissioner's chief deputy Mark Liotta will sit in as acting commissioner until the new commissioner is sworn in.

Perry's term on the Tulsa County commission expires in December 2014.
