The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a truck killed a man who was walking on Highway 169 late Monday.

The incident occurred near 126th Street North between Collinsville and Owasso at about 10:15 p.m.

The truck driver told troopers he was headed south on 169 when he saw the man walking in the outside lane. The driver -- Jose Cristobal of Garland, Texas -- said he attempted to avoid hitting the man.

"The semi driver did have his lights on. The subject was walking down the highway. There's no street lights, it's out here in the country. The semi driver tried to avoid him last second," said OHP trooper Shiloh Hall.

Trooper Hall said the OHP received reports of a man walking on the highway, but was unable to respond before the fatal incident.

The fatality closed southbound Highway 169 for about an hour while authorities investigated.

The name of the pedestrian has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
