A family is devastated after their loved one failed to return from a fishing trip in Osage County. Family members tell News On 6 that 31-year-old Adrean Smith was out fishing with a friend on Old Hominy Lake Sunday.
Smith's paddleboat capsized, and he was able to help get the friend to shore before disappearing in the water. His body has not yet been recovered.
Friends and family members are standing vigil outside a blockade the Osage County Sheriff's Office has set up on a road leading to the lake.
They are frustrated that they have heard very little from authorities since Adrean went missing at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
They say they have seen one diver in the water which is described as thick with moss.
"The story we're getting is that there is a lot of vegetation down there, and it would be easy for even an excellent swimmer to drown," said Dorothy Smith, the missing man's wife.
The Smiths have three children, ages 12, 10 and 7.
Dorothy Smith says she keeps hoping her husband will appear from the wooded area where he has gone to fish since he was a boy.
The Osage County Sheriff's Office said they worked until 8:30 Sunday evening attempting to recover the body and were back out Monday, but the heavy vegetation is giving divers a difficult time.
Some personal items belonging to Adrean Smith have been recovered, according to a family member. As of about 4:30 Monday, the search was suspended for the day.
