Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say a seatbelt may have saved a woman from becoming a drowning victim in a rollover wreck. The woman was driving on Highway 11 near 86th Street North at about 1:30 a.m.
Trooper Matthew Middleton said the woman was going northbound when her Kia Sportage left the road for reasons unknown. The SUV rolled and came to rest upside down in a ditch full of water.
"There's about two feet of water in the ditch next to us here, and the only thing that was keeping her head above water was her seatbelt," Middleton told News On 6.
"Had she not been wearing it she'd probably be a drowning victim, more than likely."
The woman was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Middleton said Country Corner EMS immobilized the woman's head and neck in case of head injury.
Sperry Fire and Rescue worked the single-vehicle crash.
