A 17-year-old driver may have learned a lesson in a one-vehicle accident, but no one was hurt.
Police said the driver was northbound on Riverside Drive about midnight Tuesday when his Chevrolet Avalanche left the roadway on a curve just north of Interstate 44.
The SUV jumped the curb and continued across the grass, snapping a light pole which fell onto Riverside Drive.
The driver continued on a few blocks and parked on 46th Street, then walked home to get his father. The father drove his son back to the parked SUV with some tools to work on the Avalanche. A witness called police to report the crash and gave a description of the SUV seen leaving the crash scene.
An officer talked to the teen about leaving a collision scene and how he could have been in serious trouble. The boy was allowed to go home with his father.
PSO-AEP moved the pole out of the road and everything was back to normal in about 90 minutes.
The teen was not hurt in the crash.
