Alcoholism has pushed the Cherokee Nation's Attorney General to take a leave of absence.
In a letter to the Cherokee Chief, AG Todd Hembree said, in part, "alcoholism has been the scourge of Indian Country for generations and...I struggle with this difficult disease."
Chief Bill John Baker hinted at misbehavior, saying Hembree's alcoholism has caused "pain" to co-workers, adding "I don't condone his actions."
The Tribe refused our requests for more specific information.
