An Oklahoma Park Ranger shot and killed a man who was reportedly trying to run him over in Atoka County, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. The officer-involved shooting took place Saturday, May 4, 2013, at McGee Creek State Park in southeastern Oklahoma.

Investigators say campers at the park complained to the park ranger that a man was acting strangely and causing a disturbance. The ranger approached the man, identified as 30-year-old David Adam Patrick Maher, a news release states. When the park ranger tried to get information from Maher, he would not cooperate and ran to a parking lot where his vehicle was parked.

Maher attempted to run over the ranger, according to the OSBI release. The ranger shot at Maher, striking him at least once. Maher, whose last known residence was in New York, died at the Atoka County Medical Center.

The Atoka County Sheriff's Office called OSBI at 10 p.m. Saturday, requesting that they investigate the officer-involved shooting.
