Here's a real rags to riches kind of story: an orphan rises to fame, helping kids stay safe during severe weather.
Radar the News on 6 Weather Dog, has gotten some national recognition for his work and tens of thousands of Green Country kids are safer because of the work he does.
Radar's made appearances on a couple of Purina's Facebook pages and folks seem to like him like him. A post about Radar on the Purina Pro Plan page has garnered more than 2,500 likes and some nice comments.
Radar got his start in a shelter. We were searching for a dog with lots of personality to help teach kids about severe weather safety. He was perfect. Breeder and trainer Susanne Shelton took on the project of getting him ready for primetime.

Now, he works the severe weather camps that Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer hosts at area school, to help teach kids how to stay safe in bad weather.
That work has identified him as a rescued dog with a serious mission and gotten him additional recognition on Purina Pro Plan's Rally to Rescue Facebook page. That post has about 1,000 likes, more great comments.
Radar makes a few personal appearances every year to help promote pet adoption, and at News On 6 severe weather camps.
