Authorities have found a 13-year-old Tulsa girl whose disappearance sent authorities on a massive hunt on Saturday.
Jennifer Escareno, 13, was found unharmed about 8:30 p.m. at the Tulsa Hills Shopping Center near 71st Street and U.S. Highway 75.
An Amber Alert was issued by officials after Escareno's family called police. Authorities statewide were actively searching for her and 14-year-old Omar Mares, who was thought to be her abductor. Escareno has an active protective order against Mares, the Amber Alert stated.
According to the source, police are no longer considering the event an abduction, and Escareno is being called a runaway.
When she was located, Escareno told police she asked Mares to pick her up and drop her off to hang out with friends, the source said.
Just before 8 p.m. in Jenks, police found the vehicle Mares was allegedly driving. They later found him at another location.
Escareno was last seen at 5 p.m. at the Foxfire Apartments, 7406 S. Victor Ave. An Amber Alert was issued about 7:30 p.m. Police dispersed and even put up the TPD helicopter for the search.
The girl is now in protective custody, police said.
