Rogers County Deputies Arrest 2 In String Of Car Burglaries

The Rogers County Sheriff's Office says it has a couple connected to more than a dozen car burglaries in custody.

Officers arrested Jack Mauldin and Mika Volbrecht Thursday morning.

The Sheriff's Office says the string of burglaries stretches from Claremore to Owasso to Tulsa, and the key to making the arrests was a tip from Facebook.

Claremore resident Lana Sears is just one of a dozen Oklahomans victimized by a recent string of car break-ins. She said, two weeks ago, three cars in her driveway were hit after midnight.

"I'm like, 'Who does that?' Seriously, you wait until someone's asleep and then you go steal from them?" Sears said.

She said the thieves took her wallet and nursing bag, her son's wallet and iPod, and her husband's gun clips. In all, she said more than $500 worth of items were stolen.

But Sears said what the suspects really took from her was her peace of mind, especially considering her garage door opener was in the car.

"I wanted to move, right away," Sears said. "They could have easily gotten into our house, and they could have hurt us."

Sears said the mistake she made was leaving her doors unlocked, which is something Rogers County Sheriff's Captain Adam Hull said is a recurring theme with car break-ins.

"Whether you live in what you think is a quiet, safe, nothing-ever-happens neighborhood, you have to get your vehicles locked," Hull said.

Hull said deputies got their first look at one of the suspects when he used a stolen credit card at a Kum & Go store in Claremore. They then put the picture from the surveillance video up on Facebook, and that resulted in the tip they needed.

"He or [she] (I'm not sure) was able to give us information on possible suspects, and even where they might be staying," Hull said.

Deputies arrested 23-year-old Jack Mauldin and 20-year-old Mika Volbrecht.

Two GPS units were recovered that investigators believe are connected to break-ins in Owasso, along with Lana Sears' missing medical bag.

"When I'm working, I always lock my car. I normally don't in the driveway, but I do now," Sears said.

Investigators in Owasso said they believe that the couple may also be connected to break-ins in Tulsa.

Mauldin and Volbrecht now each face three felony counts, and three misdemeanors, including larceny from an automobile and possession of a stolen credit card.
