Veteran Tulsa News Reporter Bill Mitchell Dies

Veteran Tulsa reporter Bill Mitchell died Friday, according to KTUL-Channel 8. Mitchell, 69, died following a long illness.

Mitchell's 42-year broadcasting career included stints at Tulsa, Little Rock, and Oklahoma City news stations. He retired in December 2012 as the senior news reporter at KTUL.

He earned honors including a regional Emmy, four Associated Press Awards and two Jerry Marx Awards (the only reporter in Oklahoma to have won this award twice).

Bill Mitchell served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965.

In addition to his career as a broadcast news reporter, Mitchell taught a media relations class for local police departments and the Oklahoma Highway patrol.

He is survived by his wife, Jill, and daughter Cynthia Mitchell.
