Thursday Morning Update

Yesterday was absolutely wonderful with abundant sunshine and highs in the mid and upper 50s.  Today begins the much advertised warm up with highs in the mid-70s along with southwest winds around 15 mph.  We'll see mostly sunny sky but a few high clouds will be likely at times this afternoon.  Friday afternoon highs may reach the lower or even mid-80s near or west of Tulsa.  We're still looking at a cold front arriving Saturday afternoon before stalling across either northern OK or southern Kansas by early Sunday morning. 

As discussed yesterday in the blog, the EURO is now keeping the boundary more northward compared to the GFS.  This would have an impact on our Sunday time period regarding the probability for showers or storms.  The EURO would bring the boundary back near Tulsa by Sunday morning and consequently the higher rain and storms chances Sunday morning would be across southern Kansas.  The GFS brings the boundary more southward Saturday night near the Red River and then Sunday morning back to near the I-40 area.  This would keep a decent shot of showers or storms near the northeastern OK area beginning late Saturday night into pre-dawn Sunday morning.  At this point, we'll not change anything in our current forecast package and keep a 40% pop for the early Sunday morning time period.  

The boundary will be near Tulsa by early Monday morning and will surge southeast away from the area Monday afternoon with northwest winds and cooler air.  A few showers and storms will be possible Monday morning and we have this pop at 20%.  

The next system will arrive around Wednesday or Thursday of next week.  If moisture can return adequately ahead of the system, some severe weather would be possible.  It's too early to know the exact parameters at this point, but it's worth a mention early in the forecast cycle due to the spring break week in Oklahoma.   

The high yesterday was 56 recorded at 4:35pm.

The normal daily average high is 62 and the low is 40.

The daily record includes a high of 85 from 1977 and 1971.  The record low is 13 from 1938 and 1975.
