The crash happened early Saturday in Fort Gibson. Police said Welch drove left of center and overcorrected, causing his pickup truck to roll several times before it hit a tree. The boy was ejected from the pickup truck.
In the affidavit, police say Welch was "unsteady on his feet, had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage on his person."
Welch was booked into the Muskogee County jail. His bond is $200,000 and a court appearance set for March 26, 2013.
