A few hours made a big difference for a Sperry man who was arrested twice in 12 hours.
Court records show Cameron Wade Hausner was arrested Sunday evening on a shoplifting complaint and re-arrested at 5:30 a.m. Monday morning after trying to steal a Red Bull from a closed convenience store.
Police say during his second arrest, Hausner also tried to ram a Highway Patrol vehicle with his pickup.
Tulsa police officers first arrested Cameron Hausner, 20, at the Walmart near Woodland Hills Mall. They say he and his girlfriend, Madeline Kate Arnold, removed the packaging off several items then hid them in a jacket.
Security guards detained the pair as they tried to leave without paying for the merchandise, according to an arrest report. Both Hausner and Arnold were booked on complaints of petit larceny Sunday at about 5 p.m.
Hausner bonded out of jail just after midnight but didn't stay gone for long.
In a second arrest report, Tulsa police were called to the At Your Convenience store at 81st and Harvard in response to a security alarm. They saw a maroon Ford pickup speeding out of the parking lot and gave chase, according to the arresting officer.
The driver, later identified as Hausner, led police and an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper on a chase "at speeds in excess of 100 mph," the arrest report states. Police say at one point, the pickup swerved in an attempt to ram the trooper's vehicle.
The pursuit ended at 36th Street North and Osage Drive where the road is partially blocked off by construction, the officer said in his report. The OHP trooper blocked Hausner's pickup in, and the trooper took Hausner into custody.
Hausner was taken down after struggling with law enforcement, the report states. After he was cuffed, he reportedly told officers he ran because he was on a suspended sentence and didn't want to go to prison.
He said he was trying to break into the gas station to get a Red Bull, police say. Officers also recovered a newspaper distribution box in the bed of his pickup.
On his second arrest, Hausner was booked on complaints of second degree burglary, eluding, knowingly concealing stolen property, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Department of Corrections records show Hausner is serving a suspended sentence for eluding a police officer and assault with a dangerous weapon.
