A Tulsa Public Schools principal has been selected as the High School Principal of the Year by the Oklahoma Association of Secondary School Principals. Stacey Vernon is the principal at Will Rogers College Junior High and High School.
"I am very surprised and humbled by this honor. I view this as a tribute to the amazing staff and student body that we have at Will Rogers. It is definitely a collaborative effort and they share this recognition with me," Vernon said.
Vernon started in education as a teacher then served as assistant principal and principal at Edison in Tulsa. She became the principal of Tulsa's first early college high school in 2011. Rogers develops a six-year plan for students, assisting with career planning and earning college credits while in high school.
Other finalists for the award were Todd Glasgow of Piedmont High School, Tracy Skinner of Deer Creek High School and Patty Stanley of Newkirk High School.
