Just time for a quick update….been a very busy day. Notice the updated QPF map on the right which is valid through this coming Wednesday. If this verifies, we are in the running for some more decent rainfall; still not a drought breaker but at least another dent in the ongoing drought situation.
As mentioned before, the best times for rain will be this Thursday when a cool front pushes across the state and brings widespread showers and possibly some thunder. Nothing severe is expected but most of us should pick up at least some rain with that system.
Cooler air will filter in behind it providing a sunny, but cooler day on Friday. Then, the next stronger system will be moving across the state late Saturday and into Sunday morning which will be the next best chance for additional showers/storms. Some locally heavier rains may occur with that system and the cold front that will be pushing across the state will also bring much cooler air with it.
That means early next week will see temperatures below normal for a change and after that it could get more interesting. A secondary system aloft may be able to produce another round of precipitation along about the Tue/Wed time frame and depending on how cold it is we may have a chance of some wintry weather. This system will not be well sampled for several more days though so that is certainly subject to change….just something to be aware of.
In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
