Warming Trend for the Coming Week.

The very cool conditions of the last few days will give way to a gradual warming trend for the coming week.

After another freezing start this morning, temperatures managed to rebound a little better this afternoon as the map on the right shows, courtesy of the OK Mesonet. We will be cold again tonight with temperatures at or below the freezing mark for most locations, but a little warmer during the day Monday as our winds will be from a more southerly direction. Those southerly winds will be very light, generally less than 10 mph, but we will have lots of sunshine again and that combination should at least get us into the 60s during the day. That is still cooler than normal for this time of year.

Tuesday will be a little warmer yet with lots of sunshine again and light winds. The wind direction will be somewhat variable across this part of the state as a weak boundary tries to make it this far south, so some locations will have a more N to NE wind and others a more southerly wind component. At any rate, the moderating trend will continue and most of us should be near 70 if not in the lower 70s during the day after starting off near 40.

Wednesday is also looking good for the trick or treaters that evening as we will have lots of sunshine and light southerly winds. Temperatures should make it into the lower 70s during the afternoon hours making for a pleasant evening.

The rest of the coming week looks to be even warmer with gusty southerly winds developing in response to a more progressive flow pattern aloft. The remnants of Sandy will finally eject out of the NE states later in the week. Sandy will be a major trouble maker for those folks, but is also blocking the flow pattern aloft and preventing anything of any consequence from coming our way. About all we will see for the coming week will be some occasional high level cirrus clouds and moderating temperatures.

By this coming weekend, there are indications that a stronger system will finally be able to make it our way and bring with it a chance of showers/storms. The longer range guidance is somewhat at odds regarding the timing and intensity, so will include a very slight chance of a shower or storm for late Saturday, and a better chance for Sunday the way things are looking now..

In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
