The power of social networking is helping reunite missing pets with their owners.

The City of Tulsa launched a website dedicated solely to lost and found animals and it already has success stories.

Tulsa's Animal Welfare department has had a Facebook page for two and a half years, and after so many comments about lost pets, it created a page specifically to spread the word for frantic pet owners.

Suzanne Pannell hasn't given up on finding her dog, Daisey.

"We desperately look for her every day," Pannell said.

The Blue Heeler Australian Shepherd mix ran away on July 7, after some neighborhood fireworks.

"We drive around and my little 18-month-old baby, well she's almost two now, would sit there and call out for Daisey," Pannell said.

When Pannell found out about the Tulsa Animal Welfare Lost and Found Page, she immediately posted Daisey's picture and information.

"I check it every day, maybe sometimes twice a day," Pannell said.

"We've gotten 200 likes almost in the last 24 hours," said Jean Letcher, Tulsa Animal Welfare Manager.

Letcher runs the page. She also posts helpful tips about what to do before and after a pet goes missing.

Letcher said the site has already been a great resource.

"We had two animals, Bonnie and Clyde, that were posted as lost about 16 hours ago and someone posted four hours ago that they had been reunited with their mom. She was thrilled—tears on all sides," Letcher said.

The shelter cares for 200 animals a day and doesn't want to add any more if it can avoid it.

"If we can get that animal back to its owner, without it ever coming here to the shelter, that's what we love best," Letcher said.

With just a few clicks, Pannell can search Tulsa's site and several other area shelters for Daisey, something that used to take several hours.

"It just makes it so much easier on gas and children, being the busy life of a mom of two to just whip out your phone, whip out your computer and look," Pannell said.

She hopes one day, Daisey also becomes a success story.

You can still call the Animal Welfare department about lost and found pets, but the number has changed.

It's now 918-596-8000.

Tulsa Animal Welfare will continue its regular Facebook page. That page has information about adoptable animals and posts on responsible pet ownership issues like spaying and neutering.
