Some folks in North and West Tulsa had some trash confusion on Wednesday.
It was the first day of the trash changeover for them, even though it has been happening for a few months in other parts of the city.
In those parts of town, the city has always picked up once a week, but now everyone has been shifted to Wednesday. The recycling and green waste plans have also started.
There were still a few places where the new carts were so new -- the homeowners had old carts full of trash, so the city was picking those up -- and leaving notes explaining that next week they won't be picking them up and folks will have to use the new carts.
"I mean, it's going to take some getting used to," Ebony Walker said. "At first they came for the recycling things and I thought they were supposed to get this so we chased them down the street and said you didn't get our trash, but I kind of like it because it's going to encourage people to recycle more."
The city said that's one of the most common questions they have gotten, and the answer is that there are three trucks going by: trash, recycling and green waste (but not necessarily in that order).
City officials said about 20 percent of people set out old carts with trash in them today.
Citizens who want their old city issued cart hauled off are asked to call 918-596-9777.
