Just one night after blowing a six-run lead and losing game one of the Division Series to Springfield, the Tulsa Drillers bounced back Thursday to shut the Cardinals out 3-0 and even the series 1-1.
Josh Outman pitched brilliantly, throwing seven innings of shutout ball to lead the way for Tulsa. After a combination of relievers got Tulsa through the eighth inning, Zach Simons struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save.
The Drillers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Corey Dickerson blasted a lead-off homer to right field in the first inning. The score remained 1-0 until the fourth inning when Tulsa's offense got back at it. Following a Troy Tulowitzki double, Ben Paulsen hit an RBI single to give the Drillers a 2-0 advantage. Nolan Arenado added an RBI single of his own in the fifth to give Tulsa its third and final run of the night.
With the best-of-five series now tied at 1-1, Tulsa will head to Springfield needing to beat the Cardinals twice. Game three will be Friday night at 7:08 p.m.
