A Green Country community came together Thursday night to support the family of a volunteer firefighter.

Haskell's masons and volunteer firefighters presented a check for $10,000 to the widow of Ron Willhite.

Willhite was working on a truck six weeks ago, when it slipped out of gear and rolled over his chest.

"Ron was the kind of guy that, if someone in the wintertime didn't have any firewood and they needed some, he would go out and cut it and not take any money or anything else for it," said Michael T. Harden with the Haskell Masonic Lodge.

Willhite's father and 13-year-old son were also at Thursday night's check presentation.
