A 20-year-old Tulsa woman is in jail after a 13-month-old son was found to have a fractured skull, black eye, bruises and a bite mark on the left arm.

Tulsa child crisis detectives arrested Adriane Dixon after she showed up at the hospital with her son.

Dixon took her son to the hospital on Saturday and he remained there Tuesday, recovering from a severe skull fracture along with other injuries.

Police said Dixon told them she woke up and found him with his face swollen and turning purple.

Police said she said she saw he was hurt, but waited about two hours before taking him to the hospital.

They said x-rays revealed a severe skull fracture along with other injuries.

Tulsa Police Child Crisis Detective Danielle Bishop described the child's condition.

"Pretty decent bruise on his left thigh, bruises on his back, bruises and scratch marks on his scrotum, and the entire left side of his face was swollen and turning purple," Bishop said.

Records show there was also a bite mark on the boy's arm, so detectives are in the process of hiring a bite mark expert to do a comparison, so they find out who bit him.

Police said investigations like this start with figuring out who had access to the child.

"The initial states of our investigation are finding out in the last 24 to 48 hours, who was around the baby, what did they notice, when did they notice it," Bishop said. "And we'll work with the pediatricians to create a timeline to see who was responsible for the injuries. By her own admission, she's the only adult caring for the baby in the last 24 hours."

Police said Dixon didn't really give any plausible explanation for the injuries, other than to say he had head-butted a dresser, but claimed that happened four days before the injuries appeared.

Police encourage family and friends to take action if they see injuries that are suspicious.

"That happens more often than not. They see something, thinking back now. Nobody wants to call police, nobody wants to call DHS, but you have to err on the side of the child," Bishop said. "We love to prove people innocent, but if you don't call, we can't investigate and make sure of that."

Dixon was booked into the Tulsa County jail on one complaint of child abuse.  Bond was set at $100,000.

She has a court hearing set for August 15.
