Merkle Named All-American, Qualifies for U.S. Women’s Amateur

Golden Hurricane golfer Kristina Merkle earned honorable mention accolades and qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur.

University of Tulsa golfer Kristina Merkle was named an honorable mention All-American by Golf Week magazine for the 2011-12 season. Merkle also qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur, which will be played Aug. 6-12 at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

Merkle was named the 2012 Conference USA Golfer of the Year as a junior, also earning first-team all-conference honors for the third-consecutive year. She was named the C-USA Golfer of the Week three times this past season and placed among the top-6 in eight of 10 tournaments for Tulsa.

She finished the season with a 73.0 stroke average in 30 rounds of golf in 2011-12 and turned in a season-best second place finish at the Golf Week Conference Challenge and placed third at the Dale McNamara Invitational.

Merkle placed fifth at the C-USA Championship to earn all-tournament team accolades in 2012.

Merkle has played in all 30 tournaments since coming to Tulsa and has placed among the top-10 in 20 career events.
