One night after getting rained out in San Antonio, the Tulsa Drillers watched Corpus Christi rain on their parade.
The Drillers weren't able to break free from their losing streak on Monday night in Corpus Christi, but they came painfully close.
The Drillers held a 4-3 advantage heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, having fought back from deficits on two occasions to do so, but the Hooks' had something in store for the end.
With two outs, Corpus Christi's Jonathan Villar connected on a walk-off home run to left field, scoring Jair Fernandez to seal a 5-4 Hooks' victory and delivering Tulsa its sixth-consecutive loss in the process.
The home run erased an otherwise strong effort from Tulsa, save for three errors.
The game started how it finished when Corpus Christi's Jonathan Singleton homered in the bottom of the first inning, driving in Andrew Simunic for a 2-0 SA lead.
The Drillers responded in the top of the second when Lars Davis hit a ground ball single through the gap into right field to score Corey Dickerson and cut the lead to 2-1 with two outs.
Tulsa pulled even in the fourth when Kent Matthes singled to center to drive in Drew Muren, but the lead didn't last long. Hooks' left fielder Austin Wates doubled on a fly ball to center field in the bottom of the fourth to score Singleton and reclaim a 3-2 advantage.
In the fifth, Drillers' shortstop Josh Rutledge connected on his team-leading 11th home run of the year with a single shot over the left field wall to draw even at 3-3. Tulsa took the lead in the seventh when Angelys Nina singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Warren Schaeffer.
Tulsa reliever Coty Woods was given the loss, falling to 3-2 on the year, after giving up the walk-off home run.
The Drillers fell to 42-37 on the season with the loss and will face the Hooks again at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday.
