The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a Pawhuska motorcyclist is in critical condition in a Tulsa hospital after he hit a cow early Sunday morning in Kay County.

The OHP says 60-year-old Kenneth Tucker was driving on U.S. 60 just east of Tonkawa at about 5:30 a.m. when he encountered five or six cows on the roadway.

Troopers say Tucker struck a 700-pound heifer and was thrown off his motorcycle, slid on the roadway and landed under a guardrail.  He was not wearing a helmet.

Tucker was first taken to a Ponca City hospital then transferred to a Tulsa hospital.

The trooper's report said Tucker suffered head and arm injuries as well as internal injuries.

No word on what happened to the heifer.
