Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Oklahoma hosted its annual "Big For A Day" event at ONEOK Field on Sunday, June 10, 2012. The event was a way for the volunteer-supported agency to remind the Tulsa-metro community that it has a BIG need for new volunteers.
"Big For A Day" helps raise awareness for the Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in Tulsa and its ongoing need for quality mentors.
During this annual event, local celebrities, community leaders and business professionals have the opportunity to experience what it's like to be a Big Brother or Big Sister for one day. They are paired with a child from the current BBBSOK waiting list.
This year, Mark Graham, CEO of the Tulsa Area United Way and Mayor Dewey Bartlett and his wife, Victoria, were at the event.
Kids on the BBBS waiting list enjoyed watching the Drillers beat the Naturals while they munched on hot dogs and ice cream with their new friends.
Many of those who participated this year included various members of the Tulsa media, Oklahoma Defenders Head Coach Derick Rassmusen and star player (former TU standout) Bobby Blackshire, Tulsa Fire Department District Chief Andy Teeter, Kadan Brady and Jessica McQuinn from the University of Tulsa Women's Basketball team and other community leaders.
If you would like to volunteer for BBBSOK, call Brian Carr at 918-728-7932.
