The mayor of Mounds confirms his town's police department is under investigation.

Aaron Veale tells News On 6 the town's two officers were suspended Thursday evening after he was notified about the investigation by Creek County District Attorney Max Cook.

Veale stressed the town is working with investigators to quickly resolve allegations against its department. Veale declined to release any details of those allegations.

Veale issued the following statement:

"It is with great sadness that I learned of the allegations against our town's police department today. The town of Mounds will do everything we can to help in the investigation. As a result of the charges against our police department, I want to inform the people of the Town of Mounds, Oklahoma that they will continue to be protected by the Creek County Sheriff's Office until such time as we can reinstate our accused officers or if necessary, replacements for the positions have been found.

"Let me reassure the people of Mounds that you are and will continue to be protected by the authorities."

Veale says the Creek County Sheriff's Office, the Creek County DA's office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation.

Veale says the town's reserve officers have had their commission cards pulled until the investigation is complete.  The reserve officers aren't eligible to serve without the supervision of the paid officers, Veale said.
