Tulsa Police Special Operations Team Called In For Search

The Tulsa Police Special Operations Team assisted in serving a search warrant in north Tulsa Saturday morning.

Police vehicles and an armored personnel carrier blocked off the 2100 block of North Louisville at about 6 a.m.

Captain Ryan Perkins said the team was called into to help Gilcrease officers who were investigating a residence for weapons.

"Anytime the Special Operations Team is called in for a warrant service, it's because there's a potential for a higher level of danger than normal," Perkins said.

"Certainly that was the case in this instance."

The safety of officers and neighbors is of primary concern when they set up to search a warrant, according to Perkins.

The show of force was apparently effective as the residents yielded to the search with no problems, he said. There were weapons uncovered at the scene though Perkins said he did not know the number of type.

The investigation, including evidence and any possible charges, would be in the hands of the Gilcrease officers, he said.

They arrested Nathaniel Clarence Thomas, 30, on complaints of firearm and marijuana possession after former conviction of a felony.
